INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Utilizing a Wednesday test day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Team Pelfrey Indy Lights hopes the data learned will launch the team to top results in this weekend’s Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Drivers Juan Piedrahita and Scott Hargrove joined the rest of the Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires field, working through a scheduled testing regiment Wednesday to get a baseline for Thursday practice and the Friday-Saturday doubleheader on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Piedrahita essentially missed the entire morning session due to an electrical issue, but was the fastest Team Pelfrey IL driver in the afternoon, his No. 2 Polipetrosur/Pawco Mazda posting a best lap of 1:16.539, 11th-quickest in the hour-long session.

“We struggled in the morning, we had an electrical issue and basically lost all of the first session,” said Piedrahita. “I’m proud of the team though. They were able to fix the problems, and the mechanics and everyone did a great job to get us on track in the afternoon for some important testing. The afternoon went well, actually. We went through a list of things setup-wise. The balance of the car is decent, now it’s just fine-tuning to find those three, four tenths to get us up towards the top three.”

Hargrove had no issues on-track, and spent the two sessions getting creative with his No. 3 GAP Guard crew working through different setup changes. His best lap of the day came in the morning, where a 1:16.440 placed him 9th in the first session. A lap of 1:17.013 in the afternoon put him 15th in the latter session.

“This day was a test day, so we treated it as such,” said the Canadian. “We were throwing things at the car, and we learned a lot. That’s the idea, I think, of a test day, and we weren’t very high on the time sheets, but now we can put everything together and apply all that going forward. It’s a long weekend for us, so we have a little more time to work on the car and try more things. We’re excited to put it all together and see what happens in the coming days.”

Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires hits the track at 12:30 p.m. for Practice 1 on the 2.4-mile road course. Practice 2 will commence at 4:30 p.m. Qualifying for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis takes place Friday May 13 at 12:00 p.m., with Race 1 starting at 4:30 p.m. Race 2 is set to go green at 1:25 p.m on Saturday May 14. Live streaming of all sessions can be found at indycar.racecontrol.com and on the Road to Indy TV app.
