Rookie Frenchman Nico Jamin won Saturday's Mazda Indy Lights Grand Prix of Alabama Presented by Cooper Tires Race 1, dominating at Barber Motorsports Park. Making the winning pass early on Lap 4, Jamin created a winning gap of 2.65 seconds over second-place finisher Kyle Kaiser.

Sunday was a wet and soggy morning for Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires 400th race, forcing qualifications to cancel on the 2.38-mile road course due to rain-soaked conditions. Setting the field to start by points, clouds cleared in time for Colton Herta to win Round 4 from start to finish.

Coverage from Barber Motorsports Park airs Wednesday, April 26 at 12 a.m. ETon NBCSCN.

The team returns home next to Indianapolis for Rounds 5 and 6 on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, May 11-13.

“I was looking good starting on the front row, but unfortunately had some contact in Turn 1 that took off my front wing and had to come in and changes. We went back out last, and drove to come back 10th. It’s not a terrible comeback and we’re still leading the championship. We’ll look forward to tomorrow, a good qualifying session, and hopefully some rain.”
RACE 2
“Starting from pole and leading from there, it was all about conserving tires today. We did it perfectly and ended up with an almost ten second gap in the end. Leading the points championship is great, but it’s still really early in the season. We’re for sure going to try and defend it throughout the year. That said, I can’t wait to race at Indianapolis coming up, especially on the oval. I’m really looking forward to May.”

“Man, that was just so amazing. I can’t thank Andretti Autosport enough. That was just an incredible race. I thought I had to take the lead at the start because it’s so hard to pass here, so I went with push-to-pass right away and into attack mode. That worked out great, and the car was amazing. Thanks to Mazda and Cooper Tires, we were able to run the same pace pretty much the whole race for 30 laps, and that’s quite incredible. The car was amazing. Big thanks to Andretti Autosport and Synova, and to my team. I’m just so happy today!”
RACE 2
“Overall, it was a very good weekend for the Andretti team! P1 and P3 for me this weekend is very, very good for the points championship. It wasn’t good leaving St. Pete where we did, but now we’re up back there and hunting my teammate [Colton Herta]. He had a great race from starting on pole, which is a big advantage here. I feel like we did what we could and scored big points this weekend, but now we focus on the month of May.”

“Overall, I think the race went well considering where we started and how hard this place is to pass. After the first lap, I didn’t have any push-to-pass and I wasn’t able to use that the whole race. There were a couple of moments where I think I could of probably went for a move if I had that. It’s definitely important to get good qualifying position at Barber, so we’re going to come in tomorrow pushing to qualify well so we can start towards the front.”
RACE 2
“Today was very good from where we started the race. I made a fun pass on my teammate [Dalton Kellett] towards the end, and we gave each other enough room. Me, Shelby [Blackstock] and Dalton had a tricky situation going into Turn 1 going three-wide, and that wasn’t going to work so I kind of bailed out. Overall, it was a really fun race here. Front tires fell off a little towards the end, and that’s when I started to struggle during the run with Shelby. I wish we got qualifying in this morning after starting P13, but we’ll go harder and get ready for Indianapolis in May. I’m really looking forward to racing in front of fans at Indy.”

“It was a good finish for the first race at Barber Motorsports Park. That was definitely an exciting start to the race. It’s too bad that a bunch of guys got caught up in the start, but in the end we were able to pick up some spots. When we went to the restart, we lost one spot but finished sixth overall today. The Andretti Autosport crew gave me a great car. We were consistent through qualifying and the first race, and we’re going to look at the data and talk with engineers to see what we can do for qualifying bright and early tomorrow. It’s definitely a hard track to pass at, so I want to make sure we start up front.”
RACE 2
“We had a great start to the race, jumping up to fifth. The first couple of laps were awesome, taking advantage of push-to-pass on the second lap. It felt like we had a really good car. I honestly feel we could’ve fought for a fourth place finish. We had a little contact on the start causing some damage to the car. After about the first 12 laps, it got to the point I just couldn’t turn the wheel anymore and was having to compromise in corners. It was kind of heartbreaking, but I had so much fun battling my teammate [Ryan Norman]. Not much you can do when someone catches you in your mirrors, but I hope Ryan got some good racing experience because I didn’t make it easy on him!”
