INDY LIGHTS GRAND PRIX OF INDIANAPOLIS RACE 2
RACE 2 REPORT
05.11.2019

An action packed Race 2 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course saw Andretti Autosport rookie Oliver Askew bring home his fifth-consecutive podium, running third as the checkered flag fell. Teammates Robert Megennis and Ryan Norman finished fourth and eighth respectively.

After starting today's race from second, Megennis battled for the first position before finding himself in the grass and falling back as far as sixth. Picking his way through the field, Megennis worked his way up to the fourth position and claimed the third spot for a brief moment near the end of the race.

Starting from third, Ryan Norman made contact in Turn 1 of Lap 1, but managed to continue on mid-pack. However, before the first lap was complete, the Ohio-native spun on track and fell back to ninth. Mid-way through the race, Norman was able to get around Lucas Kohl and set the fastest lap of the race to that point.

Up next for Andretti Autosport's Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires team is the season crown jewel, the Freedom 100 presented by Cooper Tires on Friday, May 24. Catch all of the action live on NBCSN with coverage beginning at 12 p.m. ET.

  • STARTED 5th//FINISHED 3rd
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: 2nd (145 pts.)
  • OF NOTE: Dropped to second in the standings, just one point behind new leader Rinus VeeKay//Served a penalty for interference and was forced to give up third position to teammate Robert Megennis, however quickly regained the third spot
"Overall I think we got the most out of what we had for this weekend. There were a few cars that had a little more pace than us this weekend, but it's good to leave here with two podiums and some good points moving into the second race weekend of the Month of May. I'm looking forward to the Speedway and the experience there. I have to give a big thanks to everyone at Andretti Autosport, Index Invest and the Stellrecht Company for supporting me."

      No. 27 CYBERSECURITY DALLARA
      • STARTED 2nd//FINISHED 4th
      • CHAMPIONSHIP: 3rd (125 pts.)
      • OF NOTE: Looking to sweep the weekend on the IMS road course, Megennis battled for the lead on Lap 1//Remains third in the points standings
"It was a fun race, that’s all I can really say. I’m a little disappointed in myself for making that mistake (on the first lap) going off (the track) fighting for first. You know, this is Indy Lights leading up to IndyCar - I’d rather make the mistakes now and learn from them so I can be better prepared for when I am hopefully in the NTT IndyCar Series. We had a good race getting around Dalton (Kellett) and Toby (Sowery) and then had a good battle with Oliver (Askew). Congrats to him for third and congrats to Reenus (VeeKay) on the win. I really can’t thank Andretti Autosport enough for a great car. We were fast all race and I wish we would have had a little better result to show for it. Overall, the car was great all weekend. Thanks to Palo Alto Networks, Optiv, SailPoint and CyberArc for getting me out here."

          No. 48 THREE CHORD DALLARA
          • STARTED 3rd//FINISHED 8th
          • CHAMPIONSHIP: 7th (89 pts.)
          • OF NOTE: Made contact in the opening turn of Lap 1 and spun later in the race resulting in the loss of position returning to the track in ninth//Looking ahead to the Freedom 100 where the veteran driver has started from fourth and third in 2017 and 2018
"It obviously wasn't the race we were hoping for. We had a good start and a good starting position but Iocked up my front right tire going into the first turn and got into the side (David) Malukas - which I am sorry that I ended up doing that to him. From there, for whatever reason, I had a huge flat spot on my right tire and it just got worse and worse. My hands and legs are beat up from the vibration. I just tried to hold on and bring it home. It's not the result we were looking for, but now we're turning our focus to the Freedom 100. That’s the one I want to win the most."
