INDY LIGHTS GRAND PRIX OF INDIANAPOLIS RACE 1
RACE 1 REPORT
05.10.2019

The month of May is officially here and today's Indy Lights Grand Prix of Indianapolis Race 1 set the bar for the reminder of the month. Rookie Robert Megennis started on pole for the first time in his Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires career. The native of New York kept the lead out of Turn 1 while teammates Oliver Askew and Ryan Norman followed behind in second and third, respectively. Askew passed Megennis to take the lead of the race on Lap 3, but Megennnis reclaimed the lead by Lap 5 and dominated all the way to the checkered flag.

Tune into INDYCAR Pass on NBC Sports Gold at 1:15pm ET tomorrow to catch all the action live from Race 2.

"I can’t believe we did it. It’s amazing. It’s our first Indy Lights win - my first win in a few years. We had a great car from start to finish and it feels great to kick off the month of May this way. The Andretti guys really listened to my feedback and we were able to score some valuable points in the championship and now we’re up to third in the standings. I can’t thank CyberArk, Palo Alto Networks and SailPoint for everything that they have done for me."

"It was a fantastic day for everyone at Andretti Autosport, congrats to my teammate Robert on the win. We almost had a 1-2-3 finish today, but we’ll take the 1-2-4 today. Overall I think it’s been a pretty good weekend we’ve taken a lot of momentum from the testing that we’ve had here. I think we’ve been the top team for the opening part of the season and we’re hoping to push that momentum forward and hopefully have another good day here tomorrow."

        No. 48 THREE CHORD DALLARA
        • STARTED 4th//FINISHED 4th
        • CHAMPIONSHIP: 7th (76 pts.)
        • OF NOTE: First top-five finish of 2019 season
"Overall we showed really good pace in the race. We had that issue where we fell back a little bit after (Rinus) VeeKay and (David) Malukas passed us as they were both so close. At that point, I was getting held up and ended up using too much push-to-pass at the beginning of the race. I definitely want to save those (push-to-passes) a little more tomorrow in Race 2. I was able to get by Malukas and throw down some really fast times. I started catching third place but ended up not having enough time to do it. Hopefully, we will have a good qualifying tomorrow and pull away from there."
