160 LEFT TURNS

Tomorrow a veteran and two rookies of the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship will make their way down the front straightaway into Turn 1 for what is typically the most talked about race of the year. The Freedom 100 will mark the first time Dean Stoneman and Dalton Kellett compete on Indiana’s iconic oval course. Shelby Blackstock will make his second start on the 2.5-mile track and is hungry for a victory.

With the green flag waving for the 40-Lap race at 12:30pm ET, the Carb Day crowd will fill the stands ready to witness what is sure to be a close battle between the entire field. Winning the Freedom 100 comes with many traditions. The champion of the race will ride along in the 500 Festival Parade Saturday morning, be interviewed for the Indianapolis 500 track feed and IMS Radio on Sunday and will also be honored at the Indy 500 Banquet held on Monday.

Dean Stoneman, #27 Stellrecht Dallara

“Getting to race in the Freedom 100 and as part of the 100th running of the Indy 500 is great. This is such an iconic venue; and with the huge amount of fans, you can feel what it means to be part of history. So far I’ve adapted well to ovals. I had a solid race in Phoenix and really enjoyed my first oval, but nothing can prepare you for the 2 ½ miles of IMS.  Monday’s test went well, I’ve been quick and I’m confident we can carry this into Friday’s race to get my Stellrecht Mazda into Victory Lane.”

Dalton Kellett, #28 K-Line Insulators, USA Dallara

“It was a great start to the week testing on Monday, seeing the No. 28 K-Line Insulators, USA car in P3 overall. The Andretti Autosport crew will definitely have a competitive package. Racing on Carb Day before the 100th running of the Indy 500 is going to be special. I’m looking forward to my first race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”

Shelby Blackstock, #51 Starstruck Dallara

“I’m really looking forward to the Freedom 100 this year! Our test Monday went really well and the Andretti Autosport cars are strong. We ran in traffic and that by far was the most fun I’ve had in a race car. I can’t wait to take the green flag on Friday! My Starstruck crew has put in a lot of hard work this year and it shows. The cars keep getting better and better.”
